For example, I think it might get locked up from time to time and I don't know why.

May be related to the blocking connection created for Spothole? See note on #13, "make sure spotting doesn't block receiving too much."

Could also be my laptop saving power on battery mode; will test on a machine that is plugged in.

I think the issue at #15 (comment) was my laptop taking a nap. Have been running on a different machine for a day and haven't seen any problems.
